by Leah Jacobson

Boston, MA – The Boston Pride have announced the re-signing of forward and alternate captain McKenna Brand for the 2022-23 Premier Hockey Federation season, which will be her fifth straight year with the Pride.

The 26-year-old from Park Rapids, MN has played the entirety of both her collegiate and professional hockey careers in Boston. Despite being selected 11th overall by the Metropolitan Riveters in the 2017 draft, the Northeastern University graduate elected to sign with the Pride where she has helped the team capture back-to-back Isobel Cup titles. She is enthusiastic to return for another year as the team seeks a three-peat.

“I am so excited and grateful for my fifth season with the Boston Pride,” said Brand. “I love everything about this team and playing for the best sports city. Looking forward to another year of defending our title!”

Brand currently ranks tied for fourth in all-time PHF points with 75, and goals with 33, across 67 career contests. During her 2018-19 rookie season she posted 17 points in 16 games, earning her a nomination for Newcomer of the Year. The following season, she finished third in league scoring with a career-high of 36 points including 19 goals in 24 games. She averaged a point-per-game during the shortened 2021 season with seven points in seven regular season contests, and most recently amassed 15 points in 20 games which tied for the Pride lead in 2021-22 scoring. Brand also competed in the 2022 PHF All-Star Showcase which marked the second All-Star recognition of her career.

As a member of the Huskies from 2014-18, Brand totaled 111 points in 150 total games played. She led the women’s program in goals in two of her four seasons, and earned WHEA First Team All-League honors once and WHEA All-Academic Team honors twice. In 2017-18, Brand was an alternate captain and led the team to a WHEA Championship, where she scored both of Northeastern’s goals in a 2-1 win over UConn.

“McKenna has been a consistent, key player for us these past four seasons, so it is fantastic to have her back and help lead us to another championship,” said Maddie Rigsby, newly appointed General Manager of the Pride. “I believe we have built a great roster this off-season, and I’m excited for everyone to see what we’ve been working on.”

This marks the first official signing that the Pride have announced this off-season, which gives the fans a sneak peak into an exciting, skilled roster still to be unveiled.
